Joshua Going is a fine-art and commercial photographer originally from Saco, Maine now living and working in New York City. We are featuring images from Joshua’s fine-art folio that are a visual representation of personal insecurities, emotions and experiences…
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you first got started in photography.
I have always had a creative urge but, for the longest time, really struggled to find my medium; I only started taking pictures about five years ago. The first shoot I ever did, I only had a little point-and-shoot camera. A couple friends and I went out and goofed around with it. I was immediately infatuated. Soon after, I bought my first DSLR camera and have been shooting non-stop ever since.
How would you define your style?
Raw, unique, detailed and powerful. When it comes to photography, I would call myself very versatile. I shoot fine-art, fashion, editorial and beauty. I like to think that, throughout all these different fields, my style stays intact.
Honestly, I think the main sources of inspiration for me are the world around me and my personal experiences.
Who or what are your main sources of inspiration?
Honestly, I think the main sources of inspiration for me are the world around me and my personal experiences. I know that is so vague but it’s the best answer. I have taken many of my insecurities and tried to express them through my photographs; body issues, depression, fear etc. Also, like I said, I pull a lot in from the world around me. Whether it be a color on the street that really inspired me or a unique-looking person I interact with; beauty is everywhere around me.
What has been the best piece of advice given to you about your photography?
Shoot what you like. If you start photographing things that you don’t care about, you are going to lose your passion.
Where do you want your photography to go next?
I just moved to New York City so I really want to start showing in some galleries. The opportunities in this city are unlimited which really excites me.

Are you currently working on any photographic projects that you can tell us about?
I’m always working on something! I’m not currently working on any big projects, just individual shoots at this time mostly. Make sure to follow me on Instagram @joshuagoing to keep updated with what I’m doing!
