Caio Leme Gonçalves is a landscape and fine art photographer based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Caio had his first introduction to photography while studying as a Biologist; after graduating he chose to undertake further study in commercial photography. Lately his work has seen him moving away from natural landscapes to human-made or human-influenced landscapes, documenting the strange or unusual in the ordinary.
The series Homesick Bahia was shot in February this year in the cities of Prado and Itamaraju in the southern Bahia region. This was the first region in Brazil to be colonized by the Portuguese and has great ethnic diversity with families of African, Indian and European descent. Over the centuries, the rainforest has made way for man-made structures and, with recent economic decline, these structures now stand abandoned and small businesses shuttered.
