Michael Stockton was born in Middlesbrough in the North-East of England, graduating from the University of Brighton with a degree in photography. Relocating to Germany, Michael became a member of Stattlab, a non-profit analogue photography collective located in the Wedding area of Berlin. In 2015, Michael held his first solo photography exhibition in Berlin-Mitte. For this featured folio, Michael has curated a beautiful selection of B&W images from his portfolio, all images taken on film using a medium-format camera.
“I am drawn to working with concepts of memory and absence, using ordinary objects and scenes to express what is not there; inner states, emotions, thoughts. I am interested in how the camera sees things; what it captures, the things you fail to notice or understand at the time. The work is evocative and attempts to go beyond the constraints of representation. I don’t want you to just view the photograph but to wonder how it would feel to be part of the narrative.”
