Berlin-based photographer Janine Kühn has developed a distinctive style of setting dramatic and intense portraits before seemingly mundane backdrops, giving them a twist that she describes as ‘glossy magazine meets street-cred with a touch of weirdness’. Post-Production is not an afterthought in her process, but is already factored into the equation when she is shooting, leading to an almost magical aura in her photos.
Janine is able to capture complex emotion and beauty from the unlikeliest of situations – finding strength where others may only see weakness at first glance. Having previously worked with performing artists and stage performance, her shoots often involve quirky props and distinct aesthetic concepts, which she layers meticulously in order to achieve the final complex expressiveness of her photographs.
