Naohiro Maeda was born and raised in Japan, moving to the US in 2016 and is currently living in Salem, MA. After completing his Bachelor of Arts at Keio University, Japan, Naohiro studied fine-art photography at the New England School of Photography in Boston.
The series Passages is an exploration of the mourning process. The empty spaces depicted are fantasies of comfort and solace. These are not real places but constructed places.
“Two years ago my close friend passed away and I moved to the United States. These two strong experiences happened sequentially and created a disconnection I have never felt before. The weather and time of day in my work reflect my transition from sadness to calmness to lightness.”
